Birmingham’s Domestic Abuse Toolkits: Embedding Best Practice to Support Survivors of Domestic Abuse

Birmingham’s Domestic Abuse Partnership is committed to tackling domestic abuse and creating a city where it is not tolerated. This commitment is set out in the , which was developed collaboratively with partners across the city and outlines our shared values, vision and approach to tackling domestic abuse.

To support this ambition, we are pleased to invite you to our showcase event: Beyond the Toolkit: Embedding Best Practice Every Day

Why Attend?

Birmingham’s Domestic Abuse Prevention Strategy is underpinned by a city-wide action plan, and one of the key commitments is to ensure that workforces across Birmingham have the skills, confidence and knowledge to recognise domestic abuse, respond appropriately, and understand Birmingham's domestic abuse support pathways.

Around 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 children will be subjected to domestic abuse during their lifetime. This means that, whatever your role, you are likely to come into contact with survivors through your day-to-day work, sometimes without even realising it. This event is open to anyone working with Birmingham's citizens and will equip you with the practical knowledge, skills and confidence needed to recognise domestic abuse, respond appropriately, and help create a safer city for survivors.

If you work with citizens, you work with survivors of domestic abuse. You may be the first person someone chooses to confide in. While you do not need to be a domestic abuse specialist, it is important to understand how to respond safely, recognise the signs of abuse, and know where to direct individuals for specialist support. Early identification, timely intervention and consistent professional practice can make a significant difference to outcomes for survivors.

You Will Learn About:
  • Supporting survivors using safe, trauma-informed and empowering approaches.
  • Recognising the impact of domestic abuse on children and young people.
  • Identifying opportunities for early intervention and support.
  • Holding perpetrators accountable through professional practice, language and decision-making.
  • Understanding Birmingham's domestic abuse pathways and support services.
  • Embedding best practice within your organisation and daily work.

Who Should Attend?

This event is particularly relevant for managers, training leads and frontline staff who work directly with citizens and are committed to embedding these approaches into everyday practice.
