Bird Songs for Beginners with Topher Stephens - March 25th at 6 PM in the Community RoomIn this fun and interactive presentation you’ll learn how to start distinguishing local birds by their songs and calls. You’ll learn which features of bird songs to focus on and how those unique qualities can help you determine which bird is singing. “Birding by ear” is a great way to connect with the living landscape, find beautiful birds you’ve never seen before, and bring more joy and wonder into your days. We’ll discuss some free tools and resources you can use to continue learning birdsongs and share about how to connect with local birding clubs to meet fellow bird lovers and bird learners. No experience necessary. Absolute beginners are welcome!
Topher Stephens has been a leader of outdoor and experiential education programs for over 15 years. Drawing from his background in conservation biology, mindfulness education, and nature-based mentoring, he brings deep reverence and respect for the natural world to his teaching. He leads a free local club called Birders of the Tuckaseegee and runs a nature connection school called Wild Remembering both of which aim to inspire passion, curiosity, and stewardship within our community.
