Description:
Get your outdoor space ready for spring and summer by making a ceramic bird feeder and a puddling stone to attract birds, butterflies and bees to your garden. These two clay hand building projects are perfect for beginners or experienced alike. Both projects offer opportunities to make them special with your own personal decorations, textures or wording.
Session 1 - make your bird feeder and puddling stone. Choose from textures and letters or bring your own (like plants from your own garden) to press into the clay to personalize it for you or as a gift for someone special. The project will then dry and be bisque fired and ready to glaze during the following class.
Session 2 - choose a studio glaze or glazes to give your projects that special color and make them weather proof.
Instructor Bio:
Jeff Turner is a Texas native and a graduate of Flour Bluff High School, received a bachelor’s degree in geology from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi and a master’s degree in geology from from Baylor University. While filing out his degree plan he discovered that a fine arts course was required to graduate and that’s where Jeff discovered his passion for ceramics. One class turned to several more and into a summer job before graduate school turning out pots for school funds. Life put a hold on ceramics for nearly 30 years and a career change brought him back to experiencing clay again. Jeff mostly produces functional ceramics on the wheel but is constantly exploring ways to push wheel throwing in whimsical and unexpected directions usually reserved for hand building or fusing thrown and hand building techniques. Jeff is a two time winner of Best of Show at the Art Center Ceramics Show and teaches both wheel and hand building classes at the Art Center Corpus Christi.
