About this Event

Birding has been a beloved hobby for centuries; it offers bird watchers a connection to nature, a sense of adventure, and the thrill of discovery. Baroque composers were just as inspired by birds as birders are today, listening to the songs of nightingales, cuckoos, chickens, quail, and even the “dodo of love,” and incorporating them into their music. This program features works by Biber, Rameau, Handel, Walsh, and Couperin paired with poetry recited by the singer/songwriter/cellist Erin Hall, whose album Great Blue was inspired by her encounters with a majestic Great Blue Heron during her daily walks in Central Park.
