About this Event
The Bioscience Public Lectures are a series of public engagement lectures that are open to all and will be showcasing bioscience research ongoing at the University of Wolverhampton.
This upcoming lecture titled "Aliens vs Predators: anti-predator responses of invasive frogs to novel predators” will be delivered by Dr Natasha Kruger. This seminar will explore the anti-predator strategies of invasive amphibians. When introduced in a new environment, amphibians can face a range of novel predators with whom they share no evolutionary history. How they cope with these predators may determine whether they become invasive or not. This study explores the anti-predator strategies of a successful amphibian invader especially during its most vulnerable stage (the tadpole), to determine whether this contributes to its invasion success.
Natasha is a South African-born researcher. Her research interests include the ecology, evolution, biology, and parasitology of invasive species. She completed a co-tutelle PhD degree (joint degree) between Stellenbosch University (South Africa) and Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (France) in 2020. She is currently employed by the University of Wolverhampton, UK, as a lecturer in Animal Ecology where she will take on teaching responsibilities within the Animal Behaviour and Wildlife Conservation course and continue her research on amphibians and their parasites.
This event is free for all to attend and will be hosted at the Arena Theatre, Wulfruna Street, WV1 1SE.
Entry to the Arena Theatre Tilstone Studio will be open from 19:00 where refreshments will be available with the lecture beginning promptly at 19:30.
