: Fantastic Voles and Where to Find Them
The water vole was once a familiar sight on our local waterways, but has seen national declines in recent years. In an ambitious project starting in 2016, Northumberland Wildlife Trust sought to bring the water voles back to Kielder Forest in Northumberland, with help from Forestry England and Tyne Rivers Trust. Since then, over 2,200 water voles have been released into the Kielder Forest area. But its not over yet – although there are no more planned releases, there are continuous monitoring schemes investigating the establishment of new populations and to measure the overall success of the project.
