Explore the intersection of biomaterials and fashion forecasting in this innovative and hands-on course. In BioFashion Lab, students will learn about the world of sustainable fashion by creating their own biomaterials and unique fashion pieces. Through a combination of scientific exploration, design thinking, and practical application, you will learn how to cultivate and manipulate biomaterials.
This course encourages experimentation and creativity, fostering a deep understanding of the potential of biomaterials in revolutionizing the fashion industry. Join us to pioneer the future of fashion and make a tangible impact on environmental sustainability.
In this workshop participants will:
- Get an introduction to biomaterials and their applications in fashion;
- Do hands-on experience with biofabrication process to make bio-thread and bioplastic;
- Learn sustainable design principles and practices;
- And gain insights into fashion forecasting to anticipate trends and innovations in sustainable fashion
No prior experience in fashion or biology is required!

M eet the Intructor
Lolo Ostia, (she/her).
Driven by curiosity, an interest for sustainability, biological design, and audience engagement, she channels inspiration into crafting immersive environments. Characterized by a playful use of scale and dimensional layers, her installations aim to transport the viewer into a place where perception, sensation, and emotion meet. In her practice she incorporates: Microbes, Bacterial Cellulose, Recycled Objects, Emerging Technologies and Bioplastics, sourced from renewable, non-petroleum-derived materials.Currently, Lolo is an Artist-in-residence at Governors Island, NY.
