For more than two decades, Binky Griptite has been the voice of the Dap-Kings, the hard-hitting funk and soul eight piece behind the incomparable Sharon Jones. Binky toured the world as a founding member of Soul Providers, Antibalas and the Dap-Kings.
Binky has played on platinum selling records by Janet Jackson and Amy Winehouse and toured extensively with Amy in 2007. In 2013, Binky produced the first single by the Impressions in over 30 years, the Curtis Mayfield-penned “Rhythm”.
A beacon in the soul music world and beyond, Binky is also the host the Saturday night dance party "The Boogie Down" on WFUV 90.7 FM in New York.
His latest obsession is ’40s Rhythm and Blues, like Louis Jordan and Big Joe Turner, and he’s looking forward to discovering some of the forgotten greats of the time with his awesome new configuration: The Binky Griptite Orchestra.
