In this masterclass, we will cover a brief history of the sync business, the market development and challenges, convey insights from a business and creative perspective on how to land sync deals successfully locally and internationally, how to create the right network, show highlight cases and their impact on an artist career or brand performance and how AI (backed tools) can help (and not) as well as a hands-on: 5 steps to a sync license and how to protect and monetize your music rights (touching the B2B infringement epidemic in Social Media).
About Jan Kurban: As Senior Director of Sync & Rights Management at Sony Music Germany, Jan and his team provide the creative world with fair and efficient access to the world's second-largest music catalog for use in advertising, films, series, and games. They achieve this through combined expertise, innovation, and the integration of AI tools.Throughout his career, Jan has enhanced culturally impactful campaigns with music and amplified them through the right artists and brand partnerships. These include local and global campaigns such as Deutsche Telekom with Tom Odell's "Another Love," Sony Bravia with Kygo's "Firestone," Vodafone with Rag'n'Bone Man's "Human," and collaborations between Smart and Alan Walker, EON and Vanessa Mai, o2 and RIN & Schmyt, Sony Electronics and Apache 207, among many others.Jan began his career in 2008 at Sony BMG in Munich, where he expanded the music licensing business in the DACH region. In recent years, from Berlin, he and his team have realized numerous culture marketing collaborations with industry partners, leveraging Sony Music's artist, music, and data portfolios.Jan holds a degree in Applied Media Studies from the Technical University of Ilmenau and an Executive MBA from the Bologna Business School.
