About this Event
We are excited to be gathering for our AGM in-person again for the first time since 2019!
The event will kick off with the panel discussion "How does cycling contribute to healthy, liveable cities? It’s not just about bikes"
Panelists:
Toon Dreessen leads Architects DCA’s activism in the role of architecture in social justice, gender equity, fiscal responsibility and the role of architects in a strategic, visionary, and thoughtful planning. In 2024, Toon led the establishment of the Ottawa Architecture Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the education and public awareness of the role the built environment plays in the National Capital Region.
Laura Shantz is an Ottawa Transit Riders board member. Ottawa Transit Riders is a non-partisan, membership-based, advocacy group, working to make Ottawa’s transit system more affordable, reliable, accessible, and safe for users. They believe that a robust transit system and a more accessible, active and livable city are at the heart of the solutions our City Council can implement in response to the climate crisis we are facing. Laura bikes and takes the bus to get around. Her kids bike to school.
Melanie Bechard is a pediatric emergency doctor at CHEO, with public heatlh training. Dr Bechard is passionate about sustainable health systems and policy, medical education, and social justice. She want to use her experience as a clinician to develop research studies that inform healthy public policy. Her broad research interests include access to care, injury prevention, and economic evaluation. She commutes by bike.
Koko Agborsangaya is one of the co-leads of Black Girls Do Ride, National Capital Region chapter. Black Girls Do Ride organizes rides with Black women in the Ottawa/Gatineau region. The event will begin with the public panel discussion. Following an intermission, after which we will turn to official business. Only members of Bike Ottawa as of Sept 26, 2024 can vote in this portion of the meeting.
Doors will open at 5:00pm for a reception with light refreshments. Masks are welcome and please stay home if you feel unwell.
