The Body, then the Word: Reclaiming Motion in Poetry, hosted by Briana Hammerstrom.
Movement is required for syllables. Air is gathered first to compel the larynx into motion, and so: language is birthed. The body must dance before it can be heard. Part writing intensive, part ecstatic dance, this workshop will ask those familiar with the written word to understand its origin within our bodies by using 5 key dance elements (Body, Action, Space, Time, and Energy). These components inform us and ask us to be present not just in mind or spirit but in form and shape, giving participants a toolkit to expand their body of work with The Body itself.
