POETRY ON THE BIG SCREENS SHOWCASE
One Final Night on the Big Screen
Monday 31 August 2026
6.30–8.30 pm
The Shoe Bar and Cafe, Yagan Square
FREE – RSVP encouraged
Poetry has been appearing across the city all month. Now come and see it together.
Throughout August, Poetry on the Big Screens has taken poetry out of books, readings and theatres and placed it into the everyday life of Boorloo/Perth, with selected poems appearing across public digital screens at Yagan Square, Northbridge Piazza and Forrest Place.
To close the month, Perth Poetry Festival brings the project together for a special showcase at The Shoe Bar, Yagan Square.
Settle in for an evening screening of poems from the 2026 collection, written by poets from across the community and made to be encountered in public: brief, vivid, immediate and alive on the screen.
POETRY ON THE BIG SCREENS
The project invited poets to create short works for public display under the Perth Poetry Festival 2026 theme, Ear to the Ground. Across the month, poems have appeared among commuters, pedestrians, visitors and city life, placing poetry where people might encounter it unexpectedly.
This showcase is a chance for poets, friends, audiences and passers-by to gather together and experience the collection in one place.
Entry is free. RSVP is encouraged so the Festival can get an idea of numbers.
FOOD & DRINKS
Food and drinks are available for purchase from The Shoe Bar and Cafe. If you would like to dine during the showcase, please contact the venue directly regarding table bookings.
ACCESSIBILITY
Yagan Square and The Shoe Bar provide accessible access. Please contact us if you have specific access requirements and we will assist wherever possible.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY
We wish to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we are operating on, the Whadjuk people and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We wish to acknowledge and respect their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of this city and this region. We pay our respects to them and their cultures; and to Elders both past and present.
One month. A city full of poems. One final chance to see them together.
