Join Audubon Great Lakes and Chicago Park District for a morning of native plant seed collecting and processing at Big Marsh Park on Saturday, October 5 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. CT. Meet at the Ford Calumet Environmental Center at 11559 S Stony Island Ave, Chicago, IL 60617 at 9 a.m. and then we’ll walk to the North end of the park to collect a selection of native plant seeds from Coneflower and Big Bluestem grasses. After about an hour of collecting, we will then head back to the Center to process our collected seeds so they can be stored for future plantings.
Big Marsh Park falls within the Audubon Great Lakes Calumet priority region for coastal wetland restoration and marsh bird conservation and is an important stopover area for migratory birds. Collecting native plant seeds for future plantings will help maintain this habitat for migratory birds to rest and refuel now and for years to come.
Please bring a water bottle and wear a long shirt and pants and sturdy shoes as we will be walking in uneven terrain. Light snacks will be provided along with a water jug to refill your bottle throughout the morning.
Space is limited for this free event -- register today: https://act.audubon.org/a/big-marsh-park-autumn-native-plant-seed-collection
We hope to see you there!
