About this Event
What does it mean to be a pioneer? Join the National Portrait Gallery for a discussion about the book Shining Star: The Anna May Wong Story by Paula Yoo (author) and Ling Wang (illustrator). We’ll look at a portrait of Anna May Wong and talk about the courage to find your own path.
About the program:
Early readers and their grown-up companions are invited to a book club highlighting big ideas to learn about ourselves and others. Each month, participants are encouraged to read a select picture book at home, then join Portrait Gallery educators to discuss the story. We’ll look at portraits, using art to dive deeper into each topic. Finally, we’ll create fun takeaways for continued conversations at home. Participants can register for a few or all book clubs in the series.
Our summertime series will feature picture books from our special exhibitions Brilliant Exiles: American Women in Paris, 1900-1939 and This Morning, This Evening, So Soon: James Baldwin and the Voices of Queer Resistance.
This program is ideal for elementary school-aged children and their caregivers.
