Big Gay BBQ Competition

Think you're one of the best pit masters in Pittsburgh?

Prove it at the Hazelwood Brew House on June 27 at Hazelwood Pride with Community Kitchen Pittsburgh and Hazelwood Local.

We're looking for 10 of the best BBQers to compete for the titles of Best Ribs, Best Pork, Best Brisket, Fan Favorite, and the ultimate Grand Champion.

Buy in for $250 and be provided with 1 Packer Brisket, 2 Pork Butts, 6 Racks of Ribs.

Proceeds benefit the Hugh Lane Wellness Foundation.

COMPETITION SPECIFICS:

1. The Judge’s Box: Teams must submit one 9x9 turn-in box for each category. No garnish or sauce pooling is permitted in the box (clean presentation only).

2. Public Tasting: All meat not used for the judge’s box must be served to the public in 2 oz tasting portions in exchange for tickets.

3. Equipment: Teams must provide their own pits/smokers, fuel (wood, charcoal, pellets), prep tables, and any necessary sanitation items.

Note: All equipment and pits must be designed to protect the venue. No open pits, direct-ground fires, or equipment that could result in heat damage, oil/grease spills, or scarring of the lot are permitted. Grease mats or drip pans are required under all cooking surfaces.

4. Fan Favorite Voting: Attendees will vote using tickets. Teams are encouraged to interact with the public to "campaign" for the Fan Favorite trophy.

TIMELINE:

Friday, June 26, 8 PM: Mandatory Cooks Meeting: Meat inspection, distribution, and space assignments.

Saturday June 27:

• Noon: Rib Turn-in & Public tasting begins
• 1 PM: Pork Turn-in & Public tasting
• 2 PM: Brisket Turn-in & Public tasting
• 3 PM: Awards Ceremony
