Marcia’s goal in any painting is to convey emotion, a memory or an experience that the viewer can identify with. When painting with a palette knife, texture and movement is used to tell a story with interesting light and shadows. In this course, explore the use of a limited palette and the ways 6 colors plus black and white can create a cohesive, inviting painting. We will start out completing a small (6" x 6") painting to learn how to mix color and use the knife. Then we will complete a large painting (20" x 20" or 16" x 20") of a floral design. We will work from a live arrangement the goal of a loose, gestural painting. Acrylic paint is suggested for this class due to the quick drying time; however, you can use oil paint if that is your medium of choice. This class is open to all levels of painters, from those wanting to learn to paint in a loose way or those who are more experienced but want to loosen their style.
