Big Band Swinging Christmas with Boise Straight Ahead

Boise Straight Ahead, formed in 1997, has been bringing big band jazz to Idaho audiences for nearly three decades. Dedicated to keeping this uniquely American music alive, they honor the great performers and composers who shaped the genre. The band focuses on community events in the Treasure Valley and has donated all performance fees to nonprofits like United Way, Meals on Wheels, Boys & Girls Clubs, and the Idaho Jazz Education Endowment—raising over $100,000 to date. This all-volunteer ensemble invites you to kick off your holiday season with a festive evening of Big Band Christmas tunes at the Sapphire Room this December.

We’re excited to feature The Chris McDonald Orchestra’s library of Christmas arrangements. These traditional big band holiday collections are filled with classic songs reimagined in a swinging, joyful, and sophisticated jazz style. Audiences can expect festive favorites like a lively “Sleigh Ride” alongside lush ballads, blending timeless holiday spirit with the flair of big band jazz.

With the purchase of a ticket, Sapphire guests are eligible for The Riverside Hotel's "Sapphire Getaway" for $179 + tax. This rate is available for the night of the Sapphire Room show and includes a standard hotel room (double occupancy) and breakfast for two the following morning. To reserve, please call the Riverside Hotel front desk at 208-343-1871. The Sapphire Getaway rate is subject to availability and blackout dates. It will not be available for every show.
