The Hot Springs Big Band Concert Series offers two more concerts featuring big-band orchestras will be held this fall in Horner Hall at the Hot Springs Convention Center featuring the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra on Friday, November 12, and Jukebox Saturdaynight on Friday, December 3, sponsored by Visit Hot Springs.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show will begin at 7 for each of the three concerts. Tickets, at $35 per concert for reserved table seating, will go on sale at 9 a.m., Friday, July 16, at hotsprings.org.
“We’ll have the dance floor set up for each of the shows,” Bill Solleder, Director of Marketing said, “and we encourage everyone to get up and dance to the sounds of these legendary orchestras.”
Since the death of Harry James in 1983, the band has continued the tradition of mellow arrangements and fine rhythmic playing that first made it famous, and is now under the direction of Harry James’ lead trumpet virtuoso, Fred Radke.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra, consists of the music director, five saxophone players, four trumpeters, four trombonists, piano, bass and drums. There are two vocalists.
The orchestra is on the road continuously, traveling almost every night for 48 weeks each year. It covers more than 100,000 miles doing 300 concert dates.
Performances include the legendary Glenn Miller hits, including “Moonlight Serenade,” “Sunrise Serenade,” “St. Louis Blues March,” “Tuxedo Junction,” “Stardust,” “Little Brown Jug,” “A String of Pearls,” “Elmer’s Tune,” “In the Mood” and dozens of others.
