Kai-Uwe Bergmann, FAIA, a partner at BIG, explains Formgiving, the Danish word for design, means to give form.
About this Event

Formgiving, the Danish word for design, means to give form to that which has not yet been given form: create a world to the world we would like to find ourselves. This concept is now more important than ever, as humans are the greatest force shaping the planet today. To feel that we have license to imagine a future different from today we need only look back in time to realize how radically different things once were. The same happens if we look forward with the same clear foresight. Since we know our future is bound to be different from our present, we have the power to give it form. Formgiving takes you on a journey across scales from the smallest to the largest projects to sense how the world around us has been shaped, from the past to the present and beyond. Kai-Uwe Bergmann, FAIA, is a partner at BIG with global work and heads business development in over 40 different countries. BIG, based in Copenhagen, New York, London, Barcelona, and Shenzhen, is a group of architects, designers, and more.
