This is a free community event as part of the 2025 Biamp Portland Jazz Festival. The duo of vocalist Zsófia Tardy and guitarist Attila Csikós represents Portland’s vibrant, multicultural musical scene. Their unique sound is a fusion of contemporary jazz, the influences of Béla Bartók, and Eastern European-Balkan folk traditions.
With their new duo program, they were invited to perform in San Diego for International Jazz Day 2024 and at Balboa Park’s Hungarian House annual event in 2024, where they were met with great success. They are also the artistic founders of the Portland-based Hunglish Project quartet.
Zsófia Tardy is a Portland-based jazz singer and music educator. She earned her BMus and MMus degrees at the prestigious Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary.
She began performing on stage at the age of four. A versatile singer, she has been the lead vocalist for various jazz, pop, and rock groups, big bands, classical and gospel choirs, and chamber orchestras. Zsófia performs in multiple languages, including English, Italian, Hungarian, German, Portuguese, and Spanish. With over 30 years of experience in the music industry, she has actively performed and contributed to numerous recordings across genres such as jazz, pop, rock, gospel, and classical music. She has also worked as a lead singer, background vocalist, songwriter, lyricist, and vocal coach, touring extensively across Europe for two decades.
Currently, Zsófia is a Professor of Jazz Voice at Lewis & Clark College and maintains a thriving home studio in Southwest Portland. She served as a substitute professor at Western Oregon University (WOU) in 2015 and was a guest professor of voice on behalf of WOU in Nanning, China, in 2017 and 2018.
Attila Csikós is a Portland-based musician with decades of experience as a multi-genre guitarist, music educator, composer, arranger, music producer, and recording artist. He earned his MMus at Western Oregon University and his BMus at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary.
