2024 IRC Essentials- Description
This class examines basic concepts of the 2024 International Residential Code. These concepts provide a basis for the correct utilization of the code. A clear understanding of the identified requirements allows the code user to apply the IRC in specific situations and helps to build an understanding of the intent of the code when asked to make a judgment on code compliance. This course will also help the code user to correctly locate code requirements. It will also provide a basis for the correct use and application of the code as well as to begin to develop a procedure for applying them.

About the Instructor:
Professional Profile: Rich Truitt Current Position
Rich Truitt currently serves as the Director (Building Official) for Harford County
Government in Maryland. In this capacity, he oversees the administration and enforcement of building codes and licensing within the county, ensuring the safety and compliance of construction activities.
Career Background
Rich began his career as a code professional in 1994. Over the years, he has held several key positions with Harford County, including:
Plans Reviewer, Chief Building Inspector, and
Deputy Director (Deputy Building Official). Each of these roles has contributed to his comprehensive understanding of building codes and regulatory processes.
Throughout his professional journey, Rich has actively contributed to the advancement of the code profession through his service on various boards and committees. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Maryland Building Official Association (MBOA) in multiple capacities, including Director at Large, Secretary, Vice President, and President. In addition, he has held the position of Sectional E Director with the International Code Council (ICC) and is a past member of the ICC-Evaluation Service (ES) Board of Managers.
Currently, Rich serves as Chair of the Professional Development Council and is a member of the IECC Residential Consensus Committee.
Instruction and Certification
Since 2007, Rich has been a contract instructor and subject matter expert for the ICC. In this role, he has provided instruction and engaged with code professionals across the United States, sharing his knowledge and expertise.
Rich holds 15 International Code Council Certifications and is recognized as an ICC Authorized Instructor, Certified Maryland Building
Inspector, Maryland Licensed Mechanical Inspector.
