BGCP Comic Con was started as The Big Glasgow Comic Page back in July 2012 mostly out of boredom and trying to find more Comic Fans to speak to, The Facebook Page gathered likes extremely fast as there wasn’t anything like it at the time and eventually this led to a Comic Book Group, Pub Quizzes, Tournaments and eventually a Comic Book Market.
We organized BGCP Comic Markets for several years until we had outgrown the smaller venues in Glasgow City Centre so set out to run Comic Cons in and out of Glasgow and further over Scotland including East Kilbride, Rutherglen, Loch Lomond, Dunoon, Aberdeen and countless more towns and cities.
About Galashiels
Galashiels lies in the narrow valley of the Gala Water, close to its meeting with the River Tweed, in the heart of the Scottish Borders.
The first recorded reference to Galashiels was in 1124, though the town really flourished in the 19th century during a boom in the textile industry. It is home to Galashiels Station, one of the stops on the Borders Railway train line.
The focal point of the local calendar is the Braw Lads Gathering, which takes place in late June. Why not visit for the day and enjoy the spectacle of the proceedings? Cheer on the Braw Lads and Lassies as they take part in this historic event, which commemorates the history of Galashiels and the local area.
You’ll find plenty of things to see and do near Galashiels in the Explore More section below, such as Old Gala House, which boasts a museum and art gallery as well as beautifully landscaped gardens, and Gala Rugby Football Club where you can cheer on Gala RFC as they take on rugby teams from throughout the country.
Children will love a day out at the Pavilion Cinema, where they can tuck into popcorn as they are transported to another world at a family film, or Mojos Soft Play, where they can have fun playing while you relax with a hot cup of coffee and a tasty slice of home baking.
There are plenty of ways to experience Galashiels beautiful countryside too. Why not practice your swing on a golf course, such as Galashiels Golf Course or Torwoodlee Golf Course, or enjoy a day of cycling? If you don’t have your own bike (or haven’t brought it with you) you can always rent a bike from the cycle hire shop in Galashiels and have it delivered wherever is convenient for you.
From Galashiels, you could join the National Cycle Network Route 1 and travel west to Innerleithen and Peebles, or venture east to Melrose, Newton St Boswells or Kelso. The 4 Abbeys cycle route is another great option, taking in 55 miles of glorious countryside and as well as the Scottish Borders’ four famous abbeys, namely Melrose Abbey, Dryburgh Abbey, Kelso Abbey and Jedburgh Abbey.
