“Beyond Words: Healing With the Arts After Stroke”, an exhibition by artist Robyn Bellospirito, will take place at the Huntington Public Library at 338 Main Street in Huntington, NY in October. On Sunday, October 6th, an Artists Reception will be held from 1-4pm during which the artist will give a presentation at 2pm titled "Art & Stroke Recovery: A Healing Journey". The presentation will be held in the Meeting Room.
The exhibition will include many of the Circle paintings the artist did the first year after her strokes in 2022, as well as recent work. During the presentation in the Meeting Room, Bellospirito will share her experience as an artist and stroke survivor and how painting, drawing, and making music has helped her as she continues to recover. She will talk about aphasia and the difference between verbal language and expressing ourselves through art and music. She will lead an art exercise and a music exercise, both which will be interactive for those who wish to and are able to participate.
The library gallery and Meeting Room are on the lower level and are accessible with an elevator. This event is free and open to the public and all are invited to attend. The show will run from October 1st - 29th.
This program is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Huntington Arts Council, Inc.
