Description: Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the practice of law, but many lawyers are still using it primarily for drafting documents, summarizing information, and answering questions. That’s a great place to start, but it’s only the beginning. This program explores what comes next and how to move beyond basic AI use to begin building an AI-enabled law firm.
Todd Smith will discuss practical steps for creating an AI use policy, including ethics, confidentiality, supervision, and common-sense guardrails for attorneys and staff. He will also explore how to create a culture of continuous learning, develop your team’s AI skills, and encourage responsible adoption throughout the firm. Participants will learn practical strategies for staying current without becoming overwhelmed, including simple ways to incorporate AI learning and experimentation into their regular routines.
The program will also cover how to encourage team-wide adoption, train staff effectively, and create an environment where AI becomes a valuable tool across the organization. Finally, he will take a practical look at the emergence of agentic AI and AI-powered workflows, what these technologies may mean for solo and small firms, and how to begin preparing your firm for the next phase of AI adoption.
