About this Event
What is Beyond The Label?
Beyond The Label is an awareness events that aims to inform, support, and dispel misconceptions around mental health. Our inaugural event will be focusing on Severe Mental Illness (SMI).
SMI refers to specific mental health conditions including Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, and/or Psychosis.
This event is being ran as part of our service which supports people with SMI to access free health checks and other ongoing community support.
Kindly supported by Spring North.
Schizophrenia Virtual Reality Experience
Hear how schizophrenia can be experienced by people through an auditory experience.
Headphones kindly provided by Seahouse Records.
Community Showcase
Explore our Community Showcase to see and chat with various charitable and statutory services about the support they provide to local people with Severe Mental Illness (SMI).

Blood Pressure Checks
Free blood pressure checks will be available through the NHS Social Prescribers team throughout the day.
Live Music Performance
Local musician Jon Byrne will be playing music at 1pm as attendees arrive and browse the event.

Bipolar Disorder & Creativity
Host: Jess Levine
Info: Local abstract artist Jess Levine speaks about her story and the journey to where she is now. Drawing on her lived experience, Jess will share her experiences of bipolar disorder and the value she places on creativity. She hopes to create a good atmosphere for people to play and feel their own worth on their terms.

Host: Jon Byrne
Info: Barrow's own musician Jon Byrne returns to the stage for a performance centred around mental health and recovery, something Jon has lived with and grown through.
Come down and listen to his unfiltered and authentic songs around his mental health journey and how he manages to continue to create and sing today.
