Beyond the Hospital: Birth, Breastfeeding & Baby
About this Event
Beyond the Hospital Parent Prep Series
Childbirth Education + Breastfeeding Education
One morning. Two expert-led classes. A lifetime of confidence.
Preparing for your baby shouldn’t mean piecing together information from Google, social media, and short hospital classes. Our Beyond the Hospital Parent Prep Series was created to give you the practical, evidence-based education and hands-on experience that helps you feel truly prepared for birth and life with your newborn.
Unlike virtual classes, these sessions are taught live and in-person by an experienced Birth Doula and Certified Lactation Counselors who has supported hundreds of families through pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and the postpartum period. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, practice new skills, and connect with other expectant parents in your community—all in a welcoming, supportive environment.
Session One: Beyond the Hospital Birth Class
This isn’t just about what happens during labor—it’s about understanding your options and feeling confident making decisions every step of the way.
Together we’ll cover:• The stages of labor and what to realistically expect.• Comfort measures, breathing techniques, and hands-on labor positions for you and your birth partner to practice.• Simple exercises to help prepare your body for labor.• How to create a birth plan that reflects your goals while remaining flexible.• Common medical interventions, including when they may be recommended, their benefits, potential risks, and the questions you can ask to make informed decisions.• Ways to personalize your birth experience so you feel safe, supported, and comfortable.• What to pack for the hospital and practical items that can make labor and recovery more comfortable.• Real-life tips and insights gained from supporting hundreds of births—topics that many hospital classes simply don’t have time to cover in depth.
Session Two: Beyond the Hospital Breastfeeding Class
Welcome your baby and their first feeding with confidence instead of uncertainty.
In this hands-on class, you’ll learn:• How breastfeeding works and what to expect during the first hours and days after birth.• How to achieve a deep, comfortable latch—and practice with infant dolls before your baby arrives.• How and when to hand express colostrum and breast milk.• The amazing benefits of the Breast Crawl and why those first moments after birth matter.• What to expect during the first 72 hours postpartum.• Exactly how to know your baby is getting enough milk, including diaper counts, feeding cues, and normal newborn behavior.• How to introduce a bottle using paced bottle feeding while protecting your breastfeeding relationship.• How to recognize and manage both low milk supply and oversupply.• When to seek help and how to avoid many of the most common breastfeeding challenges before they become overwhelming.
