Experience music spanning oceans and centuries, at this benefit concert featuring emerging New Zealand pianist Emma Qiu.
About this Event

This concert will take you on a journey through the calm waters of the Seine, to the turbulent beauty of the Pacific Ocean and beyond. Immerse yourself in the untouched wildernesses of New Zealand, through Fisher’s ‘Sumner Tides’ and Lilburn’s ‘Three Sea Changes’, played for the first time in Montreal. Below the depths of the oceans, we culminate in one of the most virtuosic pieces ever written for the piano — Liszt’s Dante Sonata.

About the artist:
Described by six-time GRAMMY® award-winning conductor Giancarlo Guerrero as “naturally gifted… a musician of great integrity and discipline."

Emma Qiu's early experiences began in one of the southernmost regions of the world. Born in Auckland, New Zealand, the untouched wilderness and the beauty of the ocean formed the basis of her creativity. Since then, her pianistic journey has taken her beyond the horizon and across continents, from Oceania to Europe to North America. Emma is a pianist of Chinese-New Zealander heritage.

Featured Repertoire:
  • Chopin, Barcarolle in F Sharp Major, Op. 60
  • Fisher, ‘Sumner Tides’
  • Debussy, ‘Reflets dans l’eau’ from Images Livre 1, L.110
  • Lilburn, Three Sea Changes
  • Liszt, Après une lecture du Dante: Fantasia quasi Sonata S.161

This event is a benefit concert for the artists’ upcoming studies. Any proceeds will go directly towards the artist, Emma Qiu.
