Alyssa Jenkins joined West Texas A&M University in 2026, where she teaches undergraduate social work courses and serves as a field liaison for master's level students, transitioning to field director in the fall.
Her path to social work began in radiology. Alyssa spent nearly 20 years as an X-ray technologist in surgery, emergency room, and administrative work. She was often present during the hardest moments of a patient's life, and that work shaped her decision to move into social work. She went on to earn a Master of Science in Social Work and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Certification in Thanatology from the Association for Death Education and Counseling, a credential recognizing specialized knowledge in death, dying, grief, and bereavement.
Grief and loss are at the heart of Alyssa's practice. As a Bereavement Coordinator, she developed grief support programs, counseled individuals and families, and led educational workshops for clinical staff and the community.
Outside of her work, Alyssa is a spouse, a mom, and an ambitious, sometimes overconfident yarn enthusiast!
