About this Event
What happens when talk therapy isn’t enough?
For many people living with complex trauma, personality disorders, or dissociative experiences, standard therapeutic approaches fall short. A growing body of research, and a generation of pioneering clinicians, is exploring what comes next.
Beyond Talk Therapy brings together three leading experts for a full day of evidence-based and emerging practice. Whether you’re a student encountering these approaches for the first time, a trainee building your clinical toolkit, or a qualified professional looking to deepen your understanding, this day is designed for you.
Topics covered include EMDR, complex trauma and dissociation, personality disorders, and psychedelic-assisted therapy.
The day will be accessible, engaging, and genuinely clinical — not a surface-level overview, but a substantive look at where the field is heading and why it matters.
This event is open to anyone with an interest in trauma, mental health, and the future of psychological therapy. It has been designed with the following in mind:
— Psychology students and undergraduates encountering these approaches for the first time
— Trainees in counselling, psychotherapy, clinical, or educational psychology
— Qualified therapists and clinicians looking to expand or update their practice knowledge
— Researchers and academics working in adjacent areas
No prior knowledge of EMDR or psychedelic research is required. All sessions will be framed accessibly without sacrificing clinical depth.
Organised by psychology students at the University of Edinburgh. We wanted a day that moves the needle — for students encountering these approaches for the first time, and for clinicians who want to go deeper.
