About this Event
Join TEDxReno and Beond Service for a powerful conversation on the plant medicine that is healing veterans and their families.
Veterans come home with wounds that don't end on the battlefield. They are left with trauma that hijacks their nervous systems, fractures their identities, and rewires their brains' neuroplasticity.
Their families carry this trauma as well, not merely as witnesses but as participants in the aftermath. This family trauma embeds itself in daily life without warning.
PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, addiction, and suic1de are not abstract issues. They are daily realities for millions of people who have already given more than most ever will.
The current care system is outdated and underfunded leaving our veterans and their families over-medicated, abandoned, and suicd1al.
This TEDxReno Salon brings together combat veterans, family members, researchers, and medical professionals to talk about a plant medicine that is finally healing people.
The conversation focuses on recovery that works. The method is structured, clinical, and grounded in both science and lived experience.
We are talking about Ibog@ine.
Ibog@ine is a plant-based compound that interacts with multiple systems in the brain, including opioid, serotonin, and NMDA receptors. It is being studied by top researchers for its effects on trauma, addiction, and neurological repair. Research teams, including those at Stanford University, have documented early outcomes showing real promise.
Texas recently committed $50 million to fund FDA‑approved clinical trials of ibog@ine for PTSD, addiction, and brain injury. Meanwhile, states including Arizona, Colorado, New York, Ohio, and Washington are now exploring legislation to support ibogaine research or regulated therapeutic use.
More importantly, veterans and their families are coming forward to speak about the relief and healing they experienced when they received this treatment. They will share what recovery looks like, not in theory, but in practice.
What You’ll Learn
- What ibog@ine is, how it works, and how it is being used in real clinical settings
- How combat veterans and their families are experiencing lasting recovery
- What clinical protocols are necessary for safety and effectiveness
- How neuroplasticity research supports the long-term healing potential
- Why family members are central to both trauma and recovery
- What policy developments are opening the door for further research
- How this model could reshape the future of trauma and addiction treatment
- Why states like Texas are funding tens of millions of dollars for research into Ibog@ine.
Moderated by Kaya Stanley, JD/MSW
Kaya Stanley is an attorney, CEO, and TEDxReno organizer with decades of experience in public policy, systems transformation, and trauma-informed leadership. She will guide a grounded, outcome-focused discussion centered on real stories and practical solutions.
Panelists Include
- Combat veterans who have undergone ibogaine treatment and experienced long-term healing
- Family members who have witnessed the impact of trauma and the return of the person they love and undergone their own Ibogaine treatment.
- Medical professionals who are building the safety protocols that make treatment possible
- Researchers who are tracking the neurological and psychological effects of this approach
- Policy advocates creating pathways for research and safe access within a clinical framework
Why It Matters
- Veterans and their families deserve more than symptom management
- Real recovery requires structure, support, and tools that work
- Ibog@ine is not a trend. It is helping people get their lives back
- This model is creating outcomes that existing systems have not delivered
- Healing is possible, and the people living it are ready to tell the story
Ibog@ine is not just for veterans.
This is just the beginning of the conversation. The application of this plant medicine are vast including:
- First responders
- Addiction
- Depression, anxiety, and many mental health disorders
- Brain disorders
- Cognitive enhancement
- Spiritual discovery
The discussion in this room is going to help shape public perception, shared knowledge, and public policy.
Our veterans and their families deserve to be heard. Come join us and be part of what's next.
