Beyond Resilience (a film by Amber Skye Cox)
About this Event

Join us as we celebrate the enduring strength and wisdom of the original peoples of Turtle Island with Beyond Resilience, a project focused on empowering communities through storytelling. Weaving together the stories and insights shared by two local Indigenous entrepreneurs, first time filmmaker and director Amber Skye Cox (Cree-Metis) sets out to create a living example of the importance and necessity of learning about Indigenous success as much as we learn about colonially imposed traumas, as we move forward in the process of Truth and Reconciliation.

Film Premiere:

Tuesday, September 27, 6:00 - 9:00PM

Second Screening, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation:

Friday, September 30, 6:00 - 9:00PM

A statement from the artist:

“I am so honoured to be able to give a platform to the messages shared by Samaria Cardinal of Mystical Metis and Elder Yvonne Jobin of Moonstone Creation Native Gallery and Gift Shop. And the breathtaking, healing music by Sings Many Songs Women, D P White Quills, Noreen Demeria, Caitie Kemp, and Deb Gopher-Nehiyaw. Since the very moment I met each of these wise souls, I knew I was in the presence of strength, wisdom, and courage embodied.

I am a Cree-Métis woman and member of Saddle Lake Cree Nation. Truth and Reconciliation as a process of healing has always been in the forefront of my life. When I started this project I did so from my understanding that, while learning about and confronting the truth of colonially imposed traumas is important and necessary, so too is learning about the strength, wisdom, and success of Indigenous peoples. We have always been, and always will be, so much more than our trauma.”
