About this Event
In the “Beyond Buttercream” series of classes, Laura Larson of Laura’s Custom Cakes introduces students to cake-decorating techniques that go beyond traditional buttercream. These classes are designed to expand your skill set by exploring other methods and materials that add depth, texture, visual interest and a touch of magic to your designs.
In this intermediate-level class, you will create a whimsical unicorn by carving your cake and achieving a smooth buttercream finish. You will work with isomalt to create a shimmering gold horn, and fondant to craft the eye and ears.
The highlight of this class is learning how to make edible fabric that gives the unicorn’s mane its soft, flowing, and textured look. You will also learn layering techniques to bring movement and dimension to your design.
By the end of class, you’ll walk away with a magical unicorn cake and the confidence to incorporate elevated techniques into your own creations. The possibilities are endless.
Please note that the finished product contains wheat, eggs, dairy and gelatin. We will be working with boiling sugar, so please wear long sleeves, long pants and closed toe shoes. You will be provided with gloves to protect your hands.
