The "Only One Bed" trope is such a popular storytelling device in romance, that authors will often tuck in a single bed scene as a treat for their knowing audience.
The idea is that the two characters are forced by circumstances to share a single sleeping space, creating immediate forced proximity, heightening emotional vulnerability, and, of course, physical tension.

This idea is probably as old as time, but gained momentum and wit with the early romantic comedy movies and tv shows where it was not allowed to show a man and a woman in a bedroom together, much less a bed. The masterclass of this, in my humble opinion, is the 1934 Frank Capra film, It Happened One Night, staring Claudette Colbert and Clark Gable. The blanket forming the Wall of Jericho scene is absolutely classic. **Geek footnote by Heather** This movie was the first of only three films to win the "Big Five" Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

The OOB scenario may include a bad hotel booking, or an emergency shelter. There might be a divide of pillow or an attempt to cling to opposite sides of the mattress, only to wake up spooning. There could even be the necessity of sharing body heat. Imagine that. I mean, just imagine. I can't wait to hear what kinds of bed scenarios your characters find themselves in.
