Atalaya Magdalena is a sculpture, painter, and video artist from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Across mediums, her work combines archival sources, religious iconography, and folk art traditions with images and memories of contemporary queer life.
She has been a Brower Youth Award Winner, a recipient of the 30 under 30 Changemaker’s Award, and at one time the Santa Fe Youth Poet Laurete. Her artwork has been shown by Des Lee Gallery, Zane Bennet Contemporary Art Gallery, and The SITE Santa Fe Museum, and the El Museo Cultural Santa Fe among others. In the Summer of 2024 Magdalena attended the Yale Norfolk School of Art Residency. From 2024-2025 Magdalena served as an Atkins Fellow for the Gephart Institute. She recently completed her Latin Honors Thesis in American Culture Studies, with a BA in Studio Art, at Washington University in Saint Louis. Magdalena’s first full length poetry collection She Who Eats Tourists was published earlier this year under Fifth Wheel Press.
