Between Dust & Light | Amjad Hashem
About this Event
Between Dust & Light
Between Dust and Light brings together a new body of large-scale acrylic paintings by Syrian-Dutch artist Amjad Hashem. Rooted in his experience of changing and migration, the exhibition examines what survives after rupture: memory, identity, care, and the fragile process of beginning again. Dust evokes loss, erosion, and interrupted histories. Light signals presence, endurance, and continuity.
Hashem places suspended figures within fractured interiors and uncertain architectural spaces. Layered, scraped surfaces and restrained earth tones create scenes shaped by stillness and tension. Scattered objects, traces of domestic life, and flashes of colour suggest lives interrupted, yet never fully erased. Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, the paintings hold personal memory beside shared experiences of displacement and social instability.
Between Dust and Light invites viewers into the quiet interval between departure and arrival, destruction and renewal, absence and belonging. Across these spaces, trauma and hope coexist without resolution. The exhibition asks what we carry forward when familiar structures collapse, and how light persists among the remains.
