About this Event
What if philosophy is not about discovering the One True Picture of Reality?
What if it is not a ladder for climbing out of human life, but a way of becoming more articulate, more imaginative, and more useful to one another?
Better Questions is a salon-style gathering for curious adults: part talk, part performance, part guided conversation. It is for people who love big questions, serious play, and the pleasure of thinking out loud with other curious people.
For our first gathering, we’ll explore American pragmatism — the tradition of William James, John Dewey, and Richard Rorty. Pragmatism asks us to stop treating ideas as mirrors of reality and start treating them as tools: ways of coping, creating, collaborating, and changing what we are able to see and do.
We’ll look at how pragmatism challenges the old dream of finding one final, perfect picture of the world. In its place, it offers something more human, democratic, and experimental: philosophy as a practice of making better distinctions, asking better questions, and opening better possibilities.
You do not need a background in philosophy to attend.
Expect a lively introductory talk, a few big ideas made accessible, time for Q&A, and a guided discussion with other attendees.
This is an experiment in thoughtful community: a room for people who want intellectual life to feel social, alive, generous, and real.
