About this Event

Small Steps, Giant Leaps: My Journey to Artemis
Featuring Dr. Jocabed "Joca" Giselle Marquez, NASA Artemis Program

Date: July 15
Time: 10:00–11:30 a.m.
Location: World Heritage Center, San Antonio

Join the Better Futures Institute and Tech Bloc for a conversation with Dr. Jocabed "Joca" Giselle Marquez, BFI board member and Space Launch Electrical Integration Specialist on NASA's Artemis program — the mission to return humans to the Moon. Today she builds and tests the electrical and cable systems behind some of Artemis's most critical hardware, including the Mobile Launcher, the SLS Core Stage, and the Orion spacecraft. She holds a Ph.D. and is a member of the Presidential Leadership Scholars Class of 2023, with a career spanning space systems engineering, STEM education, and regional community leadership.

In this session, Dr. Marquez will share her path from South Texas to NASA and lead a discussion on what the growing aerospace sector means for our region — the opportunities it opens, the talent it demands, and how South Texas can help shape the next era of space exploration.
