Bethlehem Calling is a Palestinian/Scottish collaboration between musician Paul Thomson (formerly of Franz Ferdinand); Ben Harrison of Grid Iron fame; acclaimed international director Raeda Ghazaleh; theatre maker Zoë Hunter; audio visual designer Dav Bernard and the Palestinian Arab Orthodox Scout pipers of Beit Jala. This unique Celtic Connections show champions artists and young people from Palestine and Scotland and tells a vital story for our time; sharing the experiences of teenage girls growing up in Bethlehem during the 2nd Intifada (2000-05) alongside present-day testimony from current students and those same women, 20 years on.
Verbatim performance will be integrated with live music co-created by Paul Thomson and some of Scotland’s finest emerging musicians, Lewis Cook (Free Love), Chizu Anucha, Firas Khnaisser and will showcase performances from the Palestinian Scouts pipe band.
This rare and unique interdisciplinary concert will be a polyphony of musical and theatrical artistic exchange.
This show is supported by Creative Scotland.
