ABOUT THE BOOK:
From the co-author of Real Dream Teams, this bold and refreshing new book explodes with a new perspective on leadership and the practices that inspire peak performance. Bethel, well-known as Bo, has been a student and teacher of what inspires peak individual and team performance for over 4 decades. His intense study and research findings have been implemented as a university professor, practicing psychologist, coach, organizational consultant, author, and transformative leader. He is perfectly positioned to write about leadership after 2020 when four unprecedented forces emerged in one historic moment to forever change leadership and what leaders do. “Getting back to normal” is simply not an option.
In a compelling and convincing manner, Thomas argues that the post-2020 world calls us “to do better”. What we learned exposes traditional bureaucratic management models as inadequate and uninspiring, reveals that good leadership practices are rarely taught to new leaders, and that toxic leaders are dangerous; attempting to normalize unethical, destructive, mean-spirited, and dehumanizing behaviors. In short, leadership is in crisis and poses a threat to organizations, communities, and the country. The magnitude of the threat, however, provides the greatest leadership opportunity of our lifetime, an opportunity for anyone and everyone to step up and be a leader, an inspirer, a light, a difference-maker, a hope-giver, and help create a “Better Normal”.
The good news. We know what “Better Normal” looks like. We have great models for “Better Normal” organizations, and “Better Normal” leaders. We now know that only inspiration leads to peak performance in individuals and teams. Only inspiration taps into the discretionary, unused human potential inside every person. We now know that all people can lead. We know the 7 exceptional practices of leaders that inspire peak performance. We know that the primary role of leaders is to make others successful. We know that the number one practice of inspiring leaders is to lead with character, courage, and compassion.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Bethel E. Thomas, Jr. PhD, widely known as “Bo”, has spent four decades as a student and teacher of peak individual and team performance. Bo now writes after a career of leadership and the implementation of his discoveries as a transformational leader, university professor, psychologist, coach, and organizational consultant. His capstone leadership experience is his 12-year inspiring journey as Vice President for Advancement at Belmont University in Nashville where he helped lead the transformation of a good regional university to a great national university brand. During the same time frame, Belmont collaborated with the Nashville community on multiple public-private-university partnerships, helping Music City become a true destination city. He is the co-author of Real Dream Teams, an engaging focus on the characteristics of peak performing teams and team leaders in a variety of settings from business to mountain climbing, to religion, to top gun flying teams, to national champions, to music, to a school of business.
