Best Video Film & Culture Center presents a Halloween weekend special event—a performance by Ramones tribute band The Hymans followed by a screening of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre!" The show is on Sat., Oct. 26. It starts at 7 PM and the cover is $10.
Gabba Gabba (New)HEY(van)! Formed in 2005, The Hymans are the Elm City’s first Ramones tribute band. Taking their pseudonyms from Joey’s real name (Jeff Hyman), these bruddahs get into character…way into character. Leather jackets, knee hole pants, this ain’t no high school dance. They walk, talk, and look like the original boys from Queens.
The Hymans are Ramones fanatics who play all the stuff...and more. Songs from the early days to “Adios Amigos” are incorporated into their ear-splitting, foot- shuffling set. Just like the real Ramones, The Hymans sometimes rotate their line-up. Unlike the real Ramones, they only play for very special occasions.
The original line-up of cretins making up the band are: Vocals: Mikey, aka Live Mike formerly of The Defcon Five and Model Chaser, Bass: J. Jay, aka John Meah of the Hulls and the Dialtones, and Slip and Fall, Drums: Bobby, aka Bob Rock of the Hulls, Saint Cobra, Shelter Dogs and many more bands, Guitar: Matty, aka Matt Wilson of The Wagon Riders, Titles, The Back and Forth of Courage, and literally shit loads of other great bands. Jakey, aka Kevin Mackenzie of the Hulls, the Dialtones, and Slip and Fall (and also many more) has lately taken over for Matty on Guitar. Don’t be a pinhead no more!!!
"The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" is a 1974 American independent horror film produced, co-composed, and directed by Tobe Hooper, who co-wrote it with Kim Henkel. The film stars Marilyn Burns, Paul A. Partain, Edwin Neal, Jim Siedow, and Gunnar Hansen. The plot follows a group of friends who fall victim to a family of cannibals while on their way to visit an old homestead. The film was marketed as being based on true events to attract a wider audience and to act as a subtle commentary on the era's political climate. Although the character of Leatherface and minor story details were inspired by the crimes of murderer Ed Gein, its plot is largely fictional.
The Ramones paid tribute to the movie on their debut album with the song "Chainsaw."
