MORE ABOUT THE SACRED FIRE:
When we sat down to imagine this year's unforgettable evening, what emerged is the symbolism of the 'sacred fire' that we dance around every week.
Historically fire was a powerful catalyst in the evolution of humans. It contributed not only to physical survival and nutritional access but also to social bonding, communication, and cultural complexity.
Fire wasn’t just a tool—it was a force that shaped the course of human evolution. Our centre altar has played a significant role in our own history (more on that in the newsletters to follow).
Furthermore the "sacred fire" is a beautiful concept that appears in many cultures and spiritual traditions across the world, symbolizing divine presence, purification, renewal, and transformation.
Though there is ongoing speculation about the exact timing of human fire control, the search results suggest that controlled fires were present at least 1 million years ago, with evidence of more widespread use emerging around 400,000 years ago!
This New Years we honour the sacred fire that has catalyzed our existence to where we stand today .... the fire we have been gathering and dancing around since the beginning of time.
Optional: Bring your intentions, blessings, gratitudes, longings, desires, pain and love ... as an offering ... to this sacred fire ... trusting in the possibility of renewal and transformation.
INTENTION SETTING:
To begin percolating your intentions, you can consider the question Kedar Brown, our Rites of Passage Elder asks us at the start of each ritual: “What brings you to this fire?”
What brings me to this fire is my love for humanity.
What brings me to this fire is my resolve to let go of the old ways of loving and surviving.
What brings me to this fire is …
What brings you to the sacred fire could be any number of things … your heart and soul, your hopes and prayers, your intentions and wishes, your blessings and gratitudes, your longings and aspirations, your pain and your love, your ancestors, your spirit and the great mystery.
