It’s time for the Mayflower Dog Show, and the canine contestants and their eccentric owners are all ready to rumble: uptight yuppies Hamilton and Meg Swan (Michael Hitchcock and Parker Posey) and their neurotic weimeraner “Beatrice”; mild-mannered menswear salesman Gerry Fleck and his bouncy wife Cookie (Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara), whose Norwich terrier’s registered name is “Champion Thank You Neil Sedaka”; fly-fishing shop owner Harlan Pepper (Christopher Guest) and his beloved bloodhound “Hubert”; New Yorker Scott Donlon and his longtime hairdresser partner, Stefan Vanderhoof (Michael McKean and John Michael Higgins) , who anticipate the crown for their pampered shih tzus “Miss Agnes” and “Tyrone”; and big-haired trophy wife Sherri Ann Cabot (Jennifer Coolidge) and driven dog trainer Christy Cummings (Jane Lynch), whose champion poodle “Rhapsody in White” just might snare the title for the third year running. Throw in hilariously inappropriate dog show commentator Buck Laughlin (Fred Willard), and you’ve got one of the funniest comedies ever!
