Join Gundula Stojanova Gruen for 'The Spirit of Balkan Folk' course at Benslow Music, happening from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 May 2026!
This unique course offers you the opportunity to delve deeply into the vibrant world of Balkan folk traditions. The 2026 Balkan Music weekend course explores the folk music of Bosnia and Kosovo. Although these styles are less familiar to British and Western European Balkan music enthusiasts, they contain strong stylistic influences, along with the vibrancy and charisma of both Ottoman and Yugoslavian traditions.
Who is this for? If you play any pitched instrument (guitars, mandolins, ouds, bowed/plucked strings, wind instruments), or can handle rhythmic and chord-based accompaniments, you're welcome! Tunes will be learned by ear, with sheet music provided as a guide for rich embellishment and phrasing.
