a Bennington Historical Society presentationIn 1999, at the 250th anniversary of the signing of Bennington’s original town charter, Tom Fels brought us Poets and Pioneers, a book that examined the stories of some of the town’s influential early residents. As we approach the 250th anniversary of our nation and of the Battle of Bennington, Fels has partnered with fellow author Bill Morgan to publish an updated and expanded edition, titled Bennington Vanguards: Pioneers and Poets. The new book includes stories that were not included or not yet known in 1999, such as those of Margaret “Peg” Bowen who was enslaved at the Catamount Tavern, and Pasquale “Patsy” Santo, immigrant house painter turned nationally recognized artist.
In this illustrated presentation, Bill Morgan and Tom Fels will share excerpts from Bennington Vanguards, talk about why they felt it was time for an updated edition, and answer your questions. Copies of Bennington Vanguards are available for purchase in the Museum Store with all proceeds helping to support the programming of the Bennington Historical Society. Bill and Tom will gladly sign your copy following the presentation.
Bennington Historical Society programs are brought to you at no charge thanks to support from Nexus Consulting and Peckham Industries.
