Beneath the Same Moon

Join soprano Maghan McPhee and pianist Joel Harder for an unforgettable evening of song, presented in conjunction with the National Capital Opera Competition (Brian Law Competition).

Longtime friends and fellow graduates of the University of Ottawa, Maghan and Joel reunite for this special recital. Now based in New York City, Joel is a sought-after collaborative pianist whose artistry enriches this return to Ottawa. Maghan, meanwhile, continues to expand her international career — growing her music academy in Italy (BIIMA), building her online program Release Your Inner Voice, and performing on stages at home and abroad.

The program spans centuries and styles, featuring works by Handel, Massenet, and Schubert alongside Canadian composers Margaret Maria, Carl Philippe Gionet, and Daniel Medizadeh — including the world premiere of a new work by Daniel Medizadeh.

Special guests Lara Deutsch (flute) and Shauna Barker (clarinet) join for Handel’s Sweet Bird and Schubert’s Shepherd on the Rock, creating a vibrant and varied evening of music under the same unchanging sky.

This concert precedes the National Capital Opera Competition the following day, where Joel, Joanna Kolomeyich, and Maghan McPhee will serve as adjudicators for an exceptional lineup of singers from across the country. https://ncos.ca/index.php/competition/
