Join Jenny for a fun, welcoming beginner belly dance workshop designed to help you move, connect, and build confidence through dance.
Following on from the previous workshop, we’ll revisit and build on the basic belly dance movements before learning one or two new, simple choreographies. This session is perfect whether you attended the last workshop or are joining for the first time.
Jenny grew up in Hull and has recently returned after spending 18 years living in France. It was there that she discovered belly dance, sparking a deep passion for movement and expression. Belly dance has rich roots in south west asian and North African culture, and at Belly with Jenny these traditions are honoured with care, respect, and appreciation. This workshop focuses on joy, connection, and mindful movement, while recognising and respecting the cultural origins of the dance.
What to Expect
A brief discussion on the history and origins of belly dance
Learning the fundamentals in a respectful, accessible, and supportive environment
We’ll explore and practice core movements, including:
✨ Hip movements
✨ Figure eights
✨ Arm positions
✨ Steps
✨ Shimmy techniques
Each movement will be broken down step by step, and by the end of the session, we’ll bring everything together into a simple, fun choreography you can enjoy dancing.
What to Wear
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely—leggings and a vest top are ideal. If you feel comfortable showing your midriff, cropped tops are welcome but absolutely not required. Please bring a scarf to tie around your waist to help accentuate your movements.
Kindly note: no ‘fancy dress’, as this is considered disrespectful to the cultural roots of the dance.
This workshop is inspired by traditional Middle Eastern and North African dance forms and is approached with genuine respect and cultural awareness. The aim is to celebrate movement, self-expression, and joy while fostering understanding and sensitivity.
No experience necessary—just bring your enthusiasm and get ready to shimmy! 💃✨
