The original Spa-Francorchamps circuit was built in 1921 by Jules de Thier and Henri Langlois van Ophem. Using public roads connecting the towns of Francorchamps, Malmedy, and Stavelot, they created an incredible 14.9 km circuit that winds through the forests and rolling hills of Belgium's beautiful Ardennes region.The track was redesigned in 1979, and although the modern layout is about half the length of the original, it remains the longest circuit on the current calendar at 7.004 km.
