About this Event
On Sunday, May 5th at 6pm, join Massy Arts, Massy Books, and BelayAll for a fundraiser, letter writing, and film screening of Resistance Climbing. The film will be followed by informal conversation and letter/postcard writing to send to elected officials.
About the film:Resistance Climbing explores the meaning of climbing and community in the lives of Palestinians as they navigate the ongoing effects and oppression of the Israeli occupation. American writer and climber Andrew Bisharat visits the West Bank to reconnect with his roots and connect with a small but growing climbing community in Palestine.

About BelayAll: BelayAll was founded in 2018 by two climbers on unceded Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh territories by one white Latinx queer person and one trans and non-binary Iranian femme person. Together, they organized carpools to the crag, pooled gear and shared skills to enable better access to climbing within their immediate communities. At the local climbing gyms, BelayAll advocated for equitable pricing for drop-ins and held meetups for identities beyond the norms to model community care, de-centre white and cis-males in those spaces, undo toxicity and open doors for climbing to be used differently and meet different needs.
Since then, BelayAll has become a vehicle for change through grassroots organizing and mutual aid efforts. We don't address all the needs for care in our communities but we're always learning and working with other organizations towards equity. We have grown and learned so much from our partner organizations like Colour the Trails, Indigenous Womxn Climb and Indigenous Women Outdoors.
Today, BelayAll consists of a community of individuals with intersecting identities and a shared commitment to building sustainable communities across mediums. We support climbers who are changing the game in all aspects of their lives: shoutout to our members in STEM, our designers, artists, medical professionals, frontline workers, caregivers and the rest!
Since 2020, our programming has slowed to be especially responsive to health orders and the needs of community. Check out our resources page to connect to the broader community doing the work to change our environments (social, cultural, economic and environmental) for the better!
