The Rorschach inkblot test was introduced as a psychiatric diagnostic instrument in 1921. The inkblots possessed no defined shapes. However, to trained observers, they reveal deeper aspects of the human psyche. This concept closely relates to the pieces in our exhibition Karel Appel: Cats. By comparing our perceptions of amorphous inkblots, we can better understand Appel’s artistic style and intention. Join us for this program featuring a hands-on activity with Timothy Hulsey, Associate Professor of Psychology, as we dive into a process that is both part of history and a part of pop culture.
