Watercolor doesn’t have to be intimidating! This class will demystify painting with watercolor. This is a nuts and bolts, information packed class. You will learn the tools and techniques enabling you to be more successful with your future forays into watercolor painting. Learn how to control the paint and water. This can also be a good brush up class if it has been a while since you have taken a watercolor class or if it has been a while since you have painted with watercolors. There are two parts to this class; you may sign up for both classes individually, based on the dates offered depending on your schedule or just one. However, if you have never done watercolor before, please take a Part I class first.
Part I: There will be an in-depth discussion about materials such as paper, brushes and paints. You will learn the basics of watercolor such as washes, graduated washes, blending colors, wet-on-wet technique, wet-on dry technique, lifting color as well as other techniques. Some color mixing and a little bit of color theory will be discussed. You will also learn about stretching watercolor paper.
Part II: Additional techniques will be included in this class that weren’t covered in Part I. Use of masking fluid, some composition discussion, more color theory and color mixing, glazing, creating texture, dry brush, leaving whites using the white of the paper instead of adding white) and ways to ‘add’ white and more!
After this class, if you want to continue on with watercolor, look for Laurie’s Watercolor Workshop or Landscape classes.
Bring to class: All materials and supplies provided. For Part II, you are welcome to bring your own supplies if you want to, but supplies will be available for use.
